Christmas in Melbourne: It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas
One of our daughters went out walking and sight-seeing in the evenings over the weekend. The Christmas light displays are starting to come out in full force.
We live not too far from the seaside in Melbourne and there seems to be this competition amongst the various neighbourhoods to put on the best display of lights. They must spend thousands on these displays and my daughter tells me that one guy she was speaking to admitted buying them up all year round at ebay.
There are even sites you can go to, to find out where Melbourne’s best displays are.
Melbourne’s Best Christmas Lights
Thought I’d share some of the highlights here with you.
This blog has a new look! I'm experimenting. My name is Kathie and I'm an avid blogger and photographer.

These shots are soooo beautiful. Lillydale?
I love the gingerbread looking house, great images!
What gorgeous displays, Kathie! I like them because we can focus on each one individually in the photos, which BTW, are wonderful. If you took them, you are quite the photographer!BR/BR/We have several places here in the suburbs of Sacramento, California that do over-the-top displays where each house tries to outdo the other. One has a Disney theme. The homeowners association in this housing development actually “requires” by signed contract that the house do the Disney light theme every Christmas. Once is enough, I’m afraid. After awhile, there are so many lights and animations that I swoon from sensory overload. I love where each house “does their thing” and there is a mix in the neighborhood of beautiful, whimsical, sacred, and so on. Thanks for showing us how the tradition of outdoor holiday displays shines the world over.
No, I didn’t take the photos but they are lovely, aren’t they? And yes, we have streets and suburbs trying to outdo each other.
