Life in Melbourne
My family and I have lived here in Melbourne now for almost 17 years. That time has flown by! We came from a smaller city and, in my eyes, one that didn’t have a lot of life in it. I craved for a more active and exciting lifestyle when I was younger and often dreamed about living in Melbourne. And then the opportunity came in the form of a temporary (2 year) job transfer for my husband. We prayed about it and felt it was the right thing for our family so we shifted over in December 1991.
That 2 year transfer grew to 6 years and when the company wanted to shift us back, we declined, because of how life had moved on. The girls remember very little of our old life these days, they were still quite young when we shifted, but when we look at the things they’ve achieved, the opportunities they’ve been given, not to mention for my husband and myself, there is no doubt this was the right move for us all.
In the early days we did a lot of touristy things to explore Melbourne and its surroundings but as the girls grew into teenage hood, my business took hold and my husband became a busy consultant, we did less and less of that. Now that the girls have grown and have their own lives, for the main part, Graham and I have begun re-exploring this lovely state of Victoria and his mountain biking activities have certainly helped in that regard too. So, as time progresses, you’ll hear more about the state of Victoria in which Melbourne is the capital city.
This blog has a new look! I'm experimenting. My name is Kathie and I'm an avid blogger and photographer.

I think it’s great that you made an effort to view your city as a tourist. So many of us miss so much that’s right in our own neighborhoods and we only think of a “vacation” as one that takes us away from where we live!BR/When I moved to the wine country, north of San Francisco some years ago I made a vow to go out once a month and act like a tourist in my own backyard. As a result I fell more in love with my location which made me even more happy with my home!
I loved reading about your life in Melbourne and the photos are wonderful! You must live in a very exciting city with lots to see and do. BR/I’m so glad to learn that you and your husband are finding time to do some exploring so that you can appreciate your surroundings even more. Can’t wait to see where you go!
You have written extensive experiences with your blog. I am starting a melbourne food forum where various dining experiences could be written. If you spare some time to visit my forum, it would be greatly appreciated
