Wind storm hits Melbourne
We had the most amazing windstorm last Wednesday with winds up to 130kmh for what seemed like ages – over 420,000 homes lost their power. The lights flickered on and off here during the day and I didn’t know whether to shut my computer down or not.
A client of mine only 5 mins from where I live was without power for a few hours, my eldest daughter was without power for a couple of days.
Today, 6 days after the event there are still around 1,000 homes without power.
Trees came down everywhere, a brick wall by a post office fell on a woman less than 5 mins from my home and she was killed. And on the weekend a house burnt down with an 83 year old woman killed and a couple in their late 60s ended up in hospital. They were without power and using a generator and candles – at this stage it’s not known if those things contributed to the start of the fire.
Over 400 trains were cancelled due to trees on the lines or power disruptions.
For us we had little damage, thankfully, but my husband’s radio aerial ended up quite bent over and he has some repair work to do sometime soon.
This blog has a new look! I'm experimenting. My name is Kathie and I'm an avid blogger and photographer.
