Being Safe at Night
We’ve lived in Melbourne now for over 16 years and love this place but there are some areas that just don’t appear to be safe to hang around at night time. Pubs and nightclubs seem to be two of those places.
There is a disturbing story in The Age today that states a survey amongst residents showed a large percentage didn’t feel it was safe to be in the streets at night in Melbourne. They felt Melbourne was becoming more violent. Personally I think the whole world is – it’s not just Melbourne but that’s another story.
Funny thing polls and surveys – 99.9% of the surveys mentioned here, we never participate in. We get the occasional phonecall – usually at dinner time – but are rarely asked to participate in any polls or surveys. So where do they draw these facts from?
Whatever, wherever, we still love Melbourne. There’s a lot of ‘life’ in this place and many places to go and visit. We don’t usually hang around pubs and nightclubs, so perhaps we miss seeing the ugly side of things, but we do enjoy going to theatre, movies, shows, and so on.
On a more positive side, investing in rental property in Melbourne has increased which is good for the state. Hopefully this means more funds being injected into our state and more housing being made available for those who need it. Victoria really is a great state to live in and we love it!
This blog has a new look! I'm experimenting. My name is Kathie and I'm an avid blogger and photographer.

I wish I could resound to the positivity of rental investments, it’s an absolute shambles up here in Sydney! Our Government need to get serious about helping those who have sadly wound up at the other end of the scales…but that too, is another story.BR/Yes, safety at night is another problem, but have to agree that it isn’t only affecting the streets of Melbourne. Sadly, we see more and more stories of ‘young offenders’, and when you see the images too often it is young adults, or children, either under the influence of alcohol or drugs, or both! This combines for an ugly and dangerous situation just about anywhere, but when placed in nightclubs, pubs or any place where there seems to be an attraction to this group of people, it’s an accident just waiting to happen. With less police walking the beat, the higher the risks!BR/Thanks for this post!
